LORAIN COUNTY RACIAL EQUITY AGENDA

In 2020, the YWCA began work on the creation of the Lorain County Racial Equity Center (LCREC). The Lorain County Racial Equity Center is a “rebranding” of the YWCA of Elyria to greater represent to the community the work we have historically done in the fulfillment of our mission — the elimination of racism and empowerment of women.

The document contained herein, Lorain County Racial Equity Agenda, is the foundational piece of the Lorain County Racial Equity Center and the expected subsequent work.

MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING

In the aftermath of the racial unrest spurred by the murder of George Floyd, YWCA’s throughout the country mobilized to have resolutions declaring Racism a Public Health Crisis passed by government jurisdictions.

YWCA Elyria pledged to work with the communities of Lorain County to dismantle systemic, structural and institutional racism in Lorain County. The guide for this work, the Lorain County Racial Equity Agenda, has become the foundation of the Lorain County Racial Equity Center and the expected subsequent work.
