This morning I turned on the news to discover that, once again, practices which support diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) are under attack.
YWCA Elyria was proud to co-sponsor this year’s local Rotary Peace Summit on Saturday, February 17th at Lorain County Community College for an epic in-person gathering aimed at fostering harmony and unity in our community.

Racial Equity Center of Lorain County Updates
Today marks the beginning of the YWCA Racial Justice Challenge! Please join us as we dedicate some time to the critical topic of Medical Abuse/Informed Consent. Understanding this history is paramount, especially considering the deep-seated lack of trust within the POC community regarding healthcare. Together, we will educate ourselves and work towards a more equitable future.
Beginning April 1st, the YWCA Racial Justice Challenge is the action component for the Until Justice Just Is campaign, which runs through April to raise awareness of systemic racism and how each of us can take action to advance justice.

In 2020, the YWCA began work on the creation of the Lorain County Racial Equity Center (LCREC). The Lorain County Racial Equity Center is a “rebranding” of the YWCA of Elyria to greater represent to the community the work we have historically done in the fulfillment of our mission ‐ the elimination of racism and empowerment of women. The document contained herein, Lorain County Racial Equity Agenda, will be the foundational piece of the Lorain County Racial Equity Center and the expected subsequent work.
We are excited to announce that YWCA’s Racial Justice Challenge will return for its 6th year on April 1-29, 2024 and registration is OPEN NOW! YWCA’s Racial Justice Challenge is a virtual learning tool designed to create dedicated time and space to build more effective social justice habits, particularly those dealing with issues of race, power, privilege, and leadership. New content is released on weekdays and participants log on to the challenge app on their phone or visit the website and are presented with 21 days of activities such as reading an article, listening to a podcast, or reflecting on personal experience.
March 8, 2024 | The Racial Equity Center of Lorain County’s Education Subcommittee met in the form of a “Micro Data Summit” to share information and spark a deeper discussion about where the ‘leaks’ in the educational pipeline exist so that we can help move the community toward actionable solutions that will make a lasting positive impact on all children.
